Statistics of the Performance of Gridded Precipitation Datasets in Indonesia

Gridded precipitation datasets have been used as alternatives to rain gauge observations, but their applicability for a specific region should be thoroughly evaluated. This article aims at finding the most appropriate one climatological and hydrological applications in Indonesia, by evaluating statistics of performance eight different (research products) having horizontal resolutions between 0.1 0.25 with time span data availability from 2003 2015. The are compared against observed daily rainfall 133 stations using 13 statistical metrics that can classified into three groups characteristics measurements, namely distribution, sequence, extreme value representations. By applying summation rank (SR), it is found MSWEP TMPA 3B42 top two outperformed based on distribution sequence metric groups. performances all still good 75th percentiles; however, decrease more than percentiles indicating poorly representation gridded datasets. Results this study suggest (v2) presently best available Indonesia.
